The Joy of Fellowship with God

The Joy of Fellowship with God

The more than abundant life is available today for those born-again believers who maintain their fellowship with God. This fellowship brings fullness of joy to a Christian’s life.

I John 1:3,4:
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship
is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Being in fellowship with our heavenly Father is being in perfect alignment and harmony with Him. How do we have perfect alignment and harmony with God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?

First, we receive sonship when we choose to confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead.

Romans 10:9,10:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

At this point, we are born again, and God by His grace makes us righteous. We are in perfect fellowship with our Father. Now we have the joy to maintain our fellowship with Him. God’s Word tells us how to maintain this fellowship as we “…walk in the light, as he [God] is in the light…” (I John 1:7).

God is Light. Therefore, when we are walking in light—walking as God leads, bringing our body and soul into subjection to the Word by renewing our minds—we are in fellowship with Him.

The deeper we get into the Word and the deeper the Word gets into us, the richer and fuller our fellowship with God becomes. Fellowship with God is maintained only by renewing the mind according to His Word.

Colossians 3:16:
Let the word of
[pertaining to] Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

To the extent that the Word richly dwells in us, we have fellowship with God. Then we can

  • have spiritual power in our day-by-day walk;
  • bring forth the fruits of righteousness, which we received from God;
  • get prayers answered;
  • have zest in Christian living.

To the extent that we believe and act according to God’s Word, we will maintain our sweet fellowship with Him and our lives will be full, rich, strong, and filled with joy.
