God Almighty made it available for everyone who confesses and believes the truths in Romans 10:9 to become His children by way of His gift of holy spirit (Romans 8:16). As God’s children, we have full access to Him at any time. He even made us righteous (I Corinthians 1:30) so that we could stand in His presence without any consciousness of sin, guilt, or shortcomings. God has done everything in His power to make possible our full, unhindered, and close relationship with Him.
As His children, we have the privilege to build this relationship with our heavenly Father. While we cannot lose our spiritual standing as His sons and daughters, the state of our fellowship with Him can be affected by our day-to-day choices. As God’s children, we can deliberately choose to take actions that build and maintain a good relationship with Him.
Romans 8:15:
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption [sonship spirit], whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
“Abba, Father” is what Jesus Christ called God. This term shows endearment and familiarity. Here in Romans, it shows how close we can be with God in this Grace Administration. This is the type of relationship that God wants to have with His children. It is a relationship where God knows us and we endeavor to know Him. It is not a distant relationship, but an active one that is maintained on a regular basis.
Read and Study God’s Written Word Faithfully
If we would like to develop and maintain a good relationship with our heavenly Father, we must first get to know Him. The best way to do this is to regularly read and study His Word.
Psalms 119:15,16:
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Actively Live God’s Word
III John 4:
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
God’s greatest joy is to hear that His children are living according to His Word. As we live God’s Word, we can continue to build upon our Father-child relationship with Him.
Take the Time Daily to Pray
Philippians 4:6:
Be careful [Be anxious] for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
I John 5:14,15:
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
When we pray, we can tell God about our day, lift all our burdens to Him, and thank Him for His help, guidance, and insight. Knowing that our loving Father hears us and will answer us when we pray builds trust and strength in our relationship with Him.
Getting to know God through His Word, striving to live the Word that we know, and regularly talking to God in prayer are all key things that we can do to keep building our relationship with God.
