God has established immutable laws that govern all of life. Immutable means unchangeable. One immutable law is the prosperity principle of giving. As we give of our abundance with love and cheerfulness out of a heart of thankfulness, we do receive God’s bountiful blessings.
In Biblical times, farmers sowed, or planted, seed by broadcasting: they would take seed in hand and let it go, thus scattering it in places where it would grow and yield a plenteous harvest. If we “let go” of our financial abundance through generous giving as the farmer does seed, we can expect abundant returns.
Galatians 6:7:
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
II Corinthians 9:6:
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
One way we can sow bountifully is by tithing. Giving a tithe is giving one-tenth of our increase to the work of the Lord. Tithing is the foundational key to material prosperity. As we sow, we reap. No matter what our circumstances are, we will prosper as we return to God at least a tithe of all our increase.
Malachi 3:10:
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Proverbs 3:9,10:
Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
We receive the most benefit from our giving when we give in love and with cheerfulness. We are to give from a heart of love. God so loved that He gave; His love moved Him to give.
John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God so loved the world that He gave His Son for us; Jesus Christ so loved that he laid down his life for us. How thankful we can be for our salvation through God’s gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, out of thankfulness, we can respond by giving. Love is giving.
When we give, we give out of love; we also give cheerfully, from a heart of abundant thankfulness for all God has given us.
II Corinthians 9:7:
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
Giving is a heart matter. When we make the heart decision to give cheerfully, we positively operate the prosperity principle of giving that God set in place. As we share of the things God has blessed us with, we prosper.
Let’s review some of God’s promises to bountifully bless us as we give:
- In II Corinthians 9:6, God promises us we will reap bountifully as we sow bountifully.
- In Malachi 3:10, God tells us that as we tithe He will open the windows of heaven and pour us out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
- In Proverbs 3:10, God tells us our barns will be filled with plenty and our presses will burst out with new wine!
We may not have barns or wine presses; but we can understand that as we give, we will prosper.
Like a farmer who expects a plenteous harvest when he sows seed, we can expect abundant returns when we give generously. We can purpose in our hearts to respond to the love of God and that of Jesus Christ by giving. And we give cheerfully from a heart of thankfulness. We can be fully persuaded that as we give, God will bless us bountifully. This is an unchangeable law of God—the prosperity principle of giving. So let’s give with confidence, knowing that our lives will be bountifully blessed as we do.
