One of the areas in which so many of us spend our time and energy is the workplace. Day after day we have the opportunity to contribute our talents, our labor, and our love to the workplace, positively affecting our fellow employees and the work environment. No matter what job we have or where our workplace may be, as born-again believers, we all have a very important job assignment: we are to be witnesses. We can do this as we walk with godly wisdom in our workplace. Walking with godly wisdom in the workplace requires us to utilize spiritual knowledge from God so that we can positively influence our workplaces as we shine as lights and bring glory to Him.
As born-again believers, we have an advantage in the workplace because we are not limited to natural knowledge—information received through our five senses. To walk with wisdom, we can also utilize spiritual knowledge—information received from God through His written Word or by direct revelation from God.
I Corinthians 2:12-14:
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in [with] the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which [with those words] the Holy Ghost [the spirit in manifestation] teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
As born-again believers, we have the spirit of God. Having a spiritual connection with God allows Him, the Source of all wisdom and truth, to provide the necessary knowledge and guidance in any situation. Utilizing spiritual knowledge from God’s written Word and from the spirit of God working in us gives us an advantage to be successful in the workplace. We can believe for God to work in us to say the right things, to ask the right questions, and to be at the right places at the right times in order to help.
As we apply spiritual knowledge from God to walk wisely, we can expect to positively influence our workplaces as we shine as lights and bring glory to Him.
II Corinthians 4:5,6:
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
What a tremendous job opportunity God has given us—to shine as lights in this world, as beacons of light in a dark night to help lead people to the truth. We can listen for needs as we walk by the spirit, and we can be willing and bold to speak and share God’s Word when there is an opportunity. We make known Jesus Christ as our lives and our work ethics lovingly express the truth of God’s Word and His will. We wisely live the Word’s way so that the light of the glory of God in us can be seen by others.
Matthew 5:16:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Shining as lights, we can radiate God’s love in all that we do in the workplace so others can see our good works and glorify our Father. Our work ethic is based on the purity of our heart to love God and serve Him with our whole heart. As we work heartily unto the Lord and walk with godly wisdom, others can see that our works are praiseworthy, morally good, and noble—and this brings glory to God.
Working as a health-care professional, I have had countless opportunities to pray and believe for healing with my patients. Oftentimes, I utilize spiritual knowledge to walk with wisdom; therefore, I have been able to witness healings and miracles at my workplace. For example, I prayed for God to work in me to know what technique I needed to perform to help heal a patient dealing with chronic back pain. After performing the treatment, the elderly man jumped off the table and walked around the room, exclaiming, “Praise God! I haven’t been able to walk like this for fifty years!” What an opportunity for me to shine as a light at my workplace and for the patient to give the glory to God for his healing!
No matter what job we have or where our workplace may be, we can be ready to help. We have the ability to walk with godly wisdom in our workplaces, utilizing spiritual knowledge from God to positively influence our places of work. We have an advantage because we can go to God for necessary guidance in all situations. As we apply spiritual knowledge at our workplaces, we shine as lights for God and radiate His love in all that we do. Walking by the spirit of God, we listen for and believe to recognize the need, responding with boldness to share and speak God’s Word when appropriate. As we strive to work heartily unto the Lord in all that we do, people will see our good works and glorify our heavenly Father. What a tremendous joy it is to walk with godly wisdom in our workplaces!
