We learn in Romans, chapter 8, that as born-again believers, we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus and nothing can separate us from God’s love.
Romans 8:37-39:
…in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
One way that we can live as more than conquerors in every situation is by being fully persuaded of God’s ever-abiding love for us and that the circumstances listed in Romans 8:38 and 39 are powerless to disconnect us from God’s love.
The ten items listed in Romans 8:38 and 39 can be grouped into five categories of things that cannot separate us from the love of God.
- The first category stated is “neither death, nor life.” Nothing in this life, nothing in this world, not even death, can separate us from the love of God. It is the God of love Who gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. We can know that not even death can separate us from God’s love.
- The next category is “nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers.” This means nothing in the spirit world can separate us, not even the rulers of the darkness of this world (Ephesians 6:12).
- The third category refers to time—“nor things present, nor things to come.” There is no dimension in time that will separate us. God’s love will extend throughout eternity.
- The fourth is space—“nor height, nor depth.” There is no dimension in space that will separate us.
- The final category is “nor any other creature.” Nothing else in all creation shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our lord. There is not one condition or variable or situation that can separate us from God’s love. God has covered it all.
This is true regardless of how we may feel in a given moment. Whether we are at our best or not, God loves us with a love that never fades. His love remains as constant as God Himself, for it is His very nature. We can live as more than conquerors by being persuaded that nothing can separate us from His magnificent love.
Romans 8:37:
…in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
The words “we are more than conquerors” are translated from the one Greek word hupernikaō. It means to have victory beyond measure, to gain a surpassing victory, or we might say to be a superconqueror. Through God and His love, we are superconquerors. Focusing on God’s unrelenting love for us is a great key to maintaining our more-than-a-conqueror attitude. “Attitude” can be defined as a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior. We reconcile our thinking to the certainty that God’s love for us will never depart. Then as our actions reflect those thoughts, we will be behaving as the superconquerors He made us to be in Christ. As we stand moment by moment, we will realize God’s victory beyond measure.
We can have a more-than-a-conqueror attitude in any circumstance by becoming fully persuaded of God’s ever-abiding love for us. Nothing can remove us from our Father’s love in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we can always act with His love and be superconquerors in every situation, for nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God!
