One dictionary definition of a blessing is “something promoting or contributing to happiness, well-being, or prosperity.” Who would not want to know all they can about something that contributes to their happiness, well-being, or prosperity? God’s Word tells us in Ephesians 1:3 that God has “…blessed us with all spiritual blessings….” One of our spiritual blessings is righteousness.
I Corinthians 1:30:
But of him [God] are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
When we understand more about our righteousness, we are able to see what we can do with this spiritual blessing.
What is righteousness? Righteousness is the God-given justification whereby a person has the right to stand in the presence of God without any consciousness of sin, guilt, or shortcomings. Righteousness is something God imparts. It is something we receive when we are born again of God’s spirit. The moment we confess with our mouth Jesus as lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we are saved—born again—and made righteous. Romans 10:10 says, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” We believe unto righteousness, and our righteousness is as permanent as our holy spirit.
When I first began attending fellowships with The Way Ministry, I knew very little about the rightly divided Word of God. Not only did I not understand what it meant to be born again, but I never felt I was good enough or worthy enough to receive anything from God. I did not understand my spiritual blessing of righteousness. This righteousness is not something we earn, nor can we ourselves become worthy enough to receive it. God Himself made us righteous by the accomplishments of Jesus Christ.
II Corinthians 5:21:
For he [God] hath made him [Jesus Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, who lived righteously, took our sin upon himself so that we might be made the righteousness of God. This is something God did for us in Christ. It is not something you or I can accomplish ourselves.
Romans 5:8:
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God loves us, and because of Jesus Christ’s accomplishments, we can live unto righteousness.
When we are convinced that God made us righteous, we can enjoy the blessings. We have an adversary, the Devil, who endeavors to talk us out of claiming our God-given righteousness. He accuses us and tries to convince us that we are not worthy of God’s gift or that we must work to be able to receive it, but the righteousness of God is given to every believer (Romans 3:22), not by works but by God’s grace and love.
Philippians 3:9:
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.
This spiritual blessing allows us to live freely without fear or condemnation. It allows us to live victoriously, claiming that we are who God says we are and that we have what God says we have. When we are convinced of our righteousness, we do not have to be hindered by our mistakes—past, present, or even future. No fear, worry, or guilt can frustrate or defeat us in our walk for Him. We no longer have to feel unworthy! God made us worthy.
How do we become convinced of our righteousness? We change our thinking to recognize what God made us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 4:24 tells us to “…put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” We change our thinking to line up with the Word and act accordingly. God made us righteous by His grace and love. When we put on the new man, renew our minds, we can be free. We can enjoy a loving relationship with our heavenly Father. When we are convinced of our righteousness, we no longer need to wonder if we are good enough for His love and care. We no longer need to wonder if He hears our prayers. We can claim what He has made available to us, including good health, abundance, and victory in life.
As we understand our righteousness more fully, we can claim this spiritual blessing in our lives and enjoy happiness, well-being, and prosperity. What a life we can live, convinced of this spiritual blessing of righteousness!
