People who love God carry out His will faithfully. They live according to His Word in their day-to-day actions. We see this in the examples of Abraham and Moses. Abraham’s and Moses’ faithfulness to live according to God’s Word allowed them to enjoy the blessings of a close and powerful relationship with God. Let’s consider what God says about each of these great men.
Isaiah 41:8:
But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.
Exodus 33:11:
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend….
We can see that both Abraham and Moses enjoyed a close relationship with God—that of a friend. The Word also notes that Abraham and Moses were faithful to God.
Nehemiah 9:7,8:
Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him….
Numbers 12:7,8:
My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
With him will I speak mouth to mouth….
Genesis 18 shows us one category in which Abraham proved himself faithful.
Genesis 18:19:
For I know him [Abraham], that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
As a result of Abraham’s faithfulness, God made a covenant with him and made him a father of many nations.
Exodus 40 tells us how Moses built faithfulness in God’s eyes.
Exodus 40:16:
Thus did Moses: according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he.
Moses’ pattern of life was to obey God and do His Word. This faithfulness opened doors for Moses to walk powerfully with God. One mighty work he was called to do was to lead God’s people out of Egypt. God worked closely with Moses to accomplish this, and Moses consistently operated God’s power in order to carry out this great work.
Proverbs 28:20 says, “A faithful man shall abound with blessings….” This verse certainly well describes the lives of both Abraham and Moses. Their faithfulness to live according to God’s Word allowed them to enjoy the blessings of a close and powerful relationship with God—that of a friend. What about us? As His sons and daughters, our faithfulness to trust in God and live according to the Word we know will enable us to enjoy the blessings of a close and powerful relationship with God as well.
