God’s Word Will Not Return Void

God’s Word Will Not Return Void

There are many things in life we may be unsure about, but God’s Word does not need to be one of them. His Word is faithful, trustworthy, and sure. He assures us His Word will not return void, or come back without effect. He fulfills His promises to us when we believe, because when God says something in His Word, it is reliable. God says what He means and means what He says!

Psalms 119:86,138:
All thy [God’s] commandments are faithful….
Thy [God’s] testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.

Our God provided us with a faithful Word. There is certainty in the Word that God has given us, because God is faithful to all generations. He will always keep His promises.

Psalms 119:90:
Thy faithfulness is unto all generations….

I was ready to participate in The Way International’s Foundational Class on the Bible. I was so excited until I saw the class schedule and noticed the dates would conflict with a training required for my job. Thankfully, a believer in my fellowship shared a great verse with me—I Corinthians 1:9: “God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” She assured me that God wanted me to be in this class and that He would keep the promises in His Word. I chose to believe God’s promise of supplying my need (Philippians 4:19), and a few days later my employer informed me that the training had been postponed for a couple of months. I was able to take the class that changed my life. God and His Word are faithful. As I claimed the Word, God did not fail me!

There is no word that God has spoken that will not come to pass. God is faithful, and He will fulfill His faithful Word. This is the faithful character of the Almighty God—Who knows all, sees all, and performs all things for His people—that assures us His Word is faithful and will not return unto Him void, or without effect.

Isaiah 55:11:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

God does not promise we will not face challenges in life, but He does tell us that He is faithful to His Word. We know that God will carry out His Word for us. We can trust His faithful Word! I Corinthians 10:13 says in part “…but God is faithful….” The Amplified Bible (1987) renders this as, “…But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted]….” I’ve been taught to put my trust in God by putting my trust in His Word. We can put our trust in God’s Word because it is composed of God’s words! Man’s words are not always reliable, but God says what He means and means what He says.

Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the Lord, I change not….” When God says He will do something, we can count on Him to do what He says He will do. These qualities surely make for trustworthiness.

Numbers 23:19:
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

The Word is faithful and trustworthy because it is composed of God’s words written to us and for us. His Word will not fail us and will not return without effect. It accomplishes what He sent it to accomplish. We can be assured that He will fulfill His promises no matter what the situation is in our lives. God says what He means and means what He says, and we can be sure of that! No matter what, God’s Word will not return void.
