Do you want the works that you do to consistently produce good results, results that indicate who you are as a child of God? This is available.
Colossians 1:10:
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful [bearing fruit, or results] in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.
We know God’s desire is that we bear fruit, that we produce results, in the good works that bring honor and glory to Him. So how can we do this? We do this by walking worthy of the Lord. And that starts with knowing and believing God’s Word. Our confidence in God, built by faithfully studying and applying the Scriptures, enables us to be fruitful in every good work. In other words, the works that come from our believing God’s Word produce good results.
The purpose of knowing and believing God’s Word is that a man or woman of God may be perfect, fully equipped and lacking nothing, unto all good works.
II Timothy 3:16,17:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
It is God’s Word that tells us how to operate the gift of holy spirit, which is another vital ingredient in being fruitful unto all good works. God’s Word tells us how to use that gift and carry out what God has called us to do. Therefore, faithfully studying and applying the Scriptures is required if we want to produce good results.
In Colossians 1:10, we also read that God desires for us to increase in the knowledge of Him. This knowledge is attained through effort or exertion. God wants us to put forth effort as active participants in learning the Word! Setting aside time each day to read God’s Word and study what it means for our lives will help us increase our knowledge of God so we can believe it and put it into action. This, in turn, helps us be fruitful in good works.
Colossians 1:9,10:
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his [God’s] will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.
As we consistently study and apply the Word, we will consistently bear fruit, and this fruit helps others to see that we are children of God. We are known by our fruit. The thoughts, words, and actions of our lives indicate who we are. We want others to see that we are men and women with the gift of holy spirit, Christ in us, who are living the Word. People will see the fruit in our lives as we believe and apply God’s Word.
The Book of James has encouraging words to help us in believing to apply the Word.
James 2:17,18; 3:13:
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation [manner of life] his works with meekness of wisdom.
As we grow in our clear and exact knowledge and application of God’s Word, our confidence in God’s Word will radiate out from our every action. This is how we can be fruitful in every good work! We can show our beautiful, fruitful lifestyle, indicating who we are as children of God; and as those around us see our fruitfulness in good works, we are bringing honor and glory to Him. So let’s have fun being fruitful for God!
