How God Can Become Our Father

How God Can Become Our Father

As a child, I learned that my earthly parents became my parents because they loved one another and wanted children to love and be loved by. But what about God? When I got born again, learning why and how I became a child of God helped me develop a sweet and intimate relationship with my heavenly Father and enjoy all the benefits He has made available for me as His child.

Why did God desire to have children? He wanted children He could love and care for and have fellowship with. And He wanted children who would love Him back. This is ultimately why He prepared the earth and the heavens. The reason for the universe is to support the earth. The reason for the earth is to support man. The reason for man is to love, worship, and fellowship with God.

God, by way of His Son, Jesus Christ, was able to beget spiritual children. Those of us born again of God’s spirit are these children whom God begot because of Christ’s works. And God made it available for all who believe to become His children.

If we are not yet born again, what are we to do in order to become God’s children? First, we are to hear the Word of God and believe it. This is how we can receive the faith of Jesus Christ—the gift of holy spirit.

Romans 10:17:
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Galatians 3:22:
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

We must hear the Word of God to be able to believe and to receive the promise of the new birth, which is laid out in Romans 10.

Romans 10:9,10:
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

We become born again of God’s spirit, His spiritual seed, when we act on His Word by believing and confessing according to Romans 10:9. From that moment, we are saved, we have the gift of holy spirit, we are children of God—sons of God. God becomes our Father.

As sons of God, we can enjoy many benefits. One benefit is that we can shine as lights in this world.

Philippians 2:15:
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

We are sons of God. God is Light, and as His children, we can shine as lights in the world.

Another benefit we can enjoy as sons of God is that we can walk with God’s love. As God loved us, we can love one another.

I John 4:7:
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Yet another benefit we have as children of God is that we have His power within, so that we can overcome in every situation. God, our heavenly Father, loves us so much that He gave us everything we need to live a victorious life.

I John 4:4:
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I John 5:4:
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith [believing].

Being born of God gives us the ability to believe and overcome in any situation, any challenge in life. It gives us the ability to walk in God’s love and to shine as lights in this world. Because God wanted children He could love and care for, have fellowship with, and who would love Him back, He made man and prepared the heavens and earth to support man. By way of His Son, Jesus Christ, God was able to beget spiritual children. Once we hear the Word, believe it, and receive the promise of the new birth, God becomes our heavenly Father, which makes it available for us to develop our sweet, intimate, and personal relationship with Him.
