We are light-givers in the world. We are God’s luminaries to reflect the brilliance and radiance of God and His Word (Philippians 2:15,16). When we speak His Word, we are imparting spiritual light and life to others, thus making a difference in their lives.
Matthew 5:16:
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
When we allow our light to so shine before men, they will see our good works and thus glorify our Father Who is in heaven. That’s making a difference, from earth up to heaven. Showing someone the light of God’s Word can be quite simple. As we, with a heart of love, make the decision to believe to shine as a light, plan how we can do it, and faithfully carry out our plan with believing, we will make a difference in others’ lives.
My parents were some of the first people to shine the light of God’s Word in my life. They made available to me the Foundational Class on the Bible, offered by The Way International. After they had taken the class, I noticed a change in their lives for the better. Their attitude of life, outlook for the future, and confidence in what God had done for them were a witness to me, and I wanted what they’d found! Their lives were radiant like never before, and I could see it in their faces. Now my life has been changed, too, and I also get to shine forth to others. So let’s see how you and I can be light-givers in the world.
First, we make a decision to shine as a light. We know God will always be with us as we take action to do His Word. This includes speaking it. Our decision is motivated out of love and thankfulness for what God did when He gave His only begotten Son for us.
John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
With a heart of love, we decide to shine as lights by doing God’s Word, having a positive impact on others. How we live and speak the Word can affect another person’s attitude, outlook, or even their believing.
Once we’ve made a decision, we think through how we can shine as lights. Planning is bringing the future into the present so that we can do something about it now.
Ephesians 6:18-20:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
We can write down our desire to be a light-giver and develop a simple plan to guide us and keep us carrying that out. We can work with a partner or a team to help us set and carry out our plan. Other believers can add a variety of ideas and help us stay focused on shining as a light.
Now we are ready to carry out our plan with love and believing, knowing that we make a difference as light-givers. Faithfulness is vital as we carry out our plan. There are many practical keys we can apply to help us follow through. For example, as we carry out a plan to shine as a light by speaking God’s Word, we can pray for boldness, which helps build our believing. That is one way we partner with God as we carry out our plans. When we’re talking with people, we can listen to their responses to learn about them and understand their needs. Then we can believe to offer a fitly spoken word to meet their need or bless them, whether we quote Scripture, pray with them, or share a godly principle. All of these practical keys can help us as we faithfully shine as lights. We each get to enjoy the privilege of being a light-giver, especially by bringing the good news of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ, to those with whom we speak.
As we shine as lights, we do make a difference. We are light-givers, making someone’s day better with what we do and say, leaving that person better than we found them. So, with a heart of love, let’s make the decision to shine as a light, plan how we can do it, and faithfully carry out our plan with believing, knowing that we will make a difference in others’ lives as we shine as lights.
