While growing up in my earthly family, it was exciting to learn of the many things I had access to use and enjoy simply because of my parents’ love and care for me. In our spiritual family, we also can take great delight in learning all that our heavenly Father gives to His children—those born again of His spirit—to use and enjoy because of His love and care for us.
I John 3:1:
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God….
God bestowed His great love upon us by calling us His sons.
Romans 8:17:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ….
As sons of God, we are also heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. We inherit everything our Father has. Think of how much God has! Let’s consider some of the rights every son of God has been given as a joint heir with Christ.
Chapter 1 of Ephesians overflows with clear details regarding our spiritual inheritance and some of our specific rights as sons of God. Consider the following truths as you read through them—they are written to you.
Ephesians 1:3:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed [past tense] us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
We have been blessed with all spiritual blessings.
Ephesians 1:4:
According as he [God] hath chosen us in him [God] before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
We were in God’s foreknowledge—He chose us! And He sees us as holy and without blame before Him in love.
Ephesians 1:6:
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
God created us for Himself. He wanted children, sons and daughters, that He could communicate with and love. It is by means of His Son, Jesus Christ, that God made us acceptable and able to receive all these blessings.
Ephesians 1:7:
In whom [Jesus Christ] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness [remission] of sins, according to the riches of his grace.
We’ve been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ and have received remission, the release from the guilt and penalty of our sins committed before being born again.
Ephesians 1:12:
That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Our lives can be an honor and adornment to God.
Ephesians 1:18:
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
How beneficial to have our understanding flooded with light and to enjoy the share of our inheritance.
Ephesians 1:19,20:
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.
The power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power that enabled us to become sons of God. There is no power more excellent than God’s, and He is our Father. WOW!
This is a glimpse of some of the tremendous rights we enjoy as God’s sons. Every day we can enhance our learning and determine to more fully access these rights as we tap into the magnificent spiritual inheritance we’ve been given. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God”!
