God’s Vision for Our Lives

God’s Vision for Our Lives

What is the vision that you have for your life? Perhaps at some point you have paused to consider what you want your life to look like. Perhaps you thought about the things you would like to accomplish, where you would like to be, or the impact you want to make in the lives of others. It can be fun to dream up our own future. The vision we have for ourselves can be inspiring and motivating. But did you know that God has a picture, a vision, for our lives?

Jeremiah 29:11:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

The New International Version of Jeremiah 29:11 reads, “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has plans for us! When we know God’s vision for us, it can inspire us to live our best lives for Him. As we live out this godly purpose, our lives are blessed, and we will exhibit power!

As the Author of life, our heavenly Father has a clear vision of how life is best lived, and He unfolds that vision in His Word. Let’s look at three of the powerful truths that demonstrate God’s vision for our lives.

1. God’s vision is for us to see His promises fulfilled.

II Peter 1:4:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Because of what God gave us, we have everything we need to live a godly life—one that is full, rich, and satisfying. The promises that we have received are not just great, they are exceeding great—greater than great! Not only are they exceeding great, but they are precious, of great value. One promise God has fulfilled is that of the new birth, the gift of holy spirit, eternal life. When we receive the new birth and thus become children of God, we are filled with all the fulness of God. This gift enables us to perform extraordinary deeds for God and His people. We can bring deliverance, healing, comfort, and encouragement to others as we operate the manifestations of holy spirit.

2. God wants us to walk in the greatness of His power! Another scripture that demonstrates God’s vision for our lives is found in II Timothy.

II Timothy 1:7:
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

He wants us to be confident and bold to live for Him without fear. He also wants us to live His love. And He desires for us to maintain a sound mind and self-control in all things.

3. God has also given us a purpose in this day and time. God has commissioned us to be ambassadors for Christ (II Corinthians 5:20)—what a powerful vision for us to live up to!

II Corinthians 5:18,19:
And all things
are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

God has placed great trust in us, His children. He gave us the ministry of reconciliation. Unless born-again believers tell others God’s Word—about the new birth, how to become sons of God—how will they hear? This is a great and noble responsibility we have as believers. Consider the honor it is to be given this responsibility and duty! This is part of God’s vision for us. To reconcile is to restore to the divine favor of God, to bring people back to God! To fulfil our purpose by bringing people back to God is certainly a mighty exploit we can perform!

This life we have been called to live is meant to be rewarding and full of meaningful purpose. As the Author of life, our heavenly Father has a clear vision of how life is best lived, and He unfolds that vision in His Word. He wants us to see His promises fulfilled, to walk in the greatness of His power and love with sound minds, to tell others about Him, and so much more. Let’s endeavor to discover what God has in store for our lives by fulfilling His vision!
