Have you ever wondered if your life really makes a difference to those around you? I remember in high school my fellow classmates would tell me that there was something different about me; that I wasn’t like them and they couldn’t figure me out. Well, I didn’t realize it at the time, but it was the “Christ in me” shining through. Because of who we are in Christ, and by the choices we make, we can and we do make a difference. Our salted commitment to live God’s Word makes a difference and helps the Word to live.
As Christians, we are the salt of the earth. In Bible times, salt was used to preserve food and therefore had great importance. Just as salt has a preserving effect, our committed stand on God’s Word preserves and safeguards our communities.
Matthew 5:13:
Ye are the salt of the earth….
Jesus was illustrating a point in Matthew, chapter 5, utilizing salt, an everyday staple of life. The people knew the importance of salt to life, so they understood what Jesus was saying. He was telling them that they were important in the sight of God. And so are we! Our stand and commitment to God’s Word and to sharing it with others helps preserve the earth and its inhabitants. As a salted, committed disciple, you make a difference. You are a vital part of the Body of Christ. God has called you to be a part of this Body before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).
As teams of believers stand salted and committed to the Word, they defeat the adversary. The adversary’s objectives are to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10). The whole earth is protected today from the adversary’s desire to destroy it because you and I, individually and collectively, are here destroying his works, living the Mystery together as joint heirs of the same Body of Christ. We want to help one another grow and manifest that more than abundant life. We want to strengthen other believers and help them increase their quality of life. We are a salted team, working together.
We can see this illustrated in the Book of Acts.
Acts 8:5,6:
Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.
And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
We see that the Word of God was on the move and people got born again. Philip was making a difference as he shared the Word with the Samaritans, who believed the Word that he taught. They spiritually received the new birth but had not yet manifested holy spirit in the senses world by speaking in tongues. Philip needed some help.
Acts 8:14-17:
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost [receive the holy spirit into manifestation]:
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost [received the holy spirit into manifestation].
These salted, committed leaders worked together so that everyone had their need met. They were destroying the adversary’s works and making a difference in the believers’ lives. That’s teamwork. Philip was not offended that Peter and John came down to help. He was thankful for their assistance. The apostles did not come to criticize or condemn the believers. The goal was that the believers could receive into manifestation the power of God and defeat the adversary where he had tried to hinder them. It was a team effort, not a show of who got the credit. Philip, Peter, and John were salted, committed disciples, who had respect and esteem for one another. They were like-minded in their commitment to live the Word and in their desire to help the Samaritans grow with God’s Word. As a team, they made a difference in the world.
With the Word as our standard, we can work together as a team in our fellowships to make a difference. We can build strength and increase our quality of life and help others do the same. By living a lifestyle committed to God’s Word, being like-minded, and working together, we are blocking the adversary from his objectives to steal, to kill, and to destroy. Our salted commitment to live God’s Word makes a difference and helps the Word to live.
